Communication – Trust – Teamwork

Why do international teams sometimes misunderstand each other?

Working with international colleagues can surface subtle but significant differences — in how time is managed, how directly people communicate, or how decisions get made. These differences aren't random; they follow recognizable cultural patterns that, once understood, become manageable rather than confusing.

This one-hour online course introduces the fundamentals of intercultural communication in professional settings. Participants explore how cultural dimensions — such as attitudes toward hierarchy, time orientation, and communication style — shape everyday collaboration, and why misunderstandings often stem from differing expectations rather than personal intent.

What You'll Learn

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Recognize common sources of intercultural misunderstanding in team settings, such as differing norms around time, directness, and feedback

Explain how core cultural dimensions (e.g., communication style, hierarchy, time orientation) influence workplace interactions

Apply practical strategies for adapting communication approaches when working with international colleagues

Reflect on their own cultural assumptions and how these shape collaboration

Format and Approach

The course combines short input phases with practical examples and interactive discussion, following a "Reflection in Action" approach: participants connect cultural concepts directly to real workplace situations.

Who This Course Is For

This course is designed for employees who regularly collaborate with international colleagues, teams, or clients — no prior knowledge of intercultural communication theory required (EQF Level 1–2).
